Downtown "Shared Vision Plan" Update

As promised, that "shared vision plan" for downtown improvements that you've heard so much about has not been collecting dust on my book shelf. The plan from JLG Architects has been a daily focus of the Downtown District, City Hall and other stakeholders involved in the shared vision.

The Downtown District is currently seeking a Marketing or Program Director. Represent the interests of downtown business and property owners seeking to increase downtown vibrancy through events, programs, advocacy and new initiatives. Post-secondary education degree and at least three to five years experience in marketing or program/project management required. Candidates with extensive community involvement, excellent written and oral communication skills, the desire to work with diverse groups of people and the ability to have fun in challenging situations are preferred.

Higley's on 2nd - Shop on YOUR Schedule!

Love fall fashions, shopping and getting together with your friends? Never enough time to do it all? Higley's on 2nd would like to help! They will open up their store after regular business hours and provide drinks and snacks while you shop until you drop! New Belgium Beers Are Coming to Cedar Rapids!

The Downtown District and Fleck Sales are excited to announce a joint Downtown Pub Crawl on September 28 at 5:00 p.m. For the first time ever, New Belgium beers will be available in several Downtown bars and restaurants! Featured brews for this pub crawl include: Flat Tire, Mothership Wit and 1554. Participants will be able to register to win fantastic prizes from the New Belgium Brewery and all proceeds will go towards improving downtown amenities, like the trail system and the riverfront! Holiday Progressive Dinner - SAVE THE DATE!

Mark your calendars for one of our most "progressive" dinners to date! For this year's Holiday Progressive Dinner, the Downtown District is joining forces with the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art to showcase an exhibit called "Prozac Planet." Focused on contemporary issues of the environment, branding and politics, the exhibit will feature animals that are taking on the vivid colors of prescription drugs. Progressive dinner guests will enjoy dinner at one of two selected downtown restaurants and then dessert and champagne will be served while participants enjoy a private exhibit viewing at the CRMA. COMING SOON: "Holiday DeLite" Parade Registration!

The 24th Annual "Holiday DeLite" Parade is fast approaching and we want to make sure that everyone has the chance to register! Last year we had nearly 80 parade entries, including marching bands, fire trucks, girl scouts and even Santa himself! Parade registration forms will be mailed out around the beginning of October, so make sure to contact Jill Wilkins at jill@downtowncr.org if you would like to be on the mailing list. Stay tuned to www.downtowncr.org for information about parade themes and information on the Fire & Ice Festival! The Holiday DeLite Parade is scheduled for Friday, December 7 at 6:00 p.m.
