TODAY: Absentee Ballots Available for LOST Vote
Absentee ballots are now available today for the 1 cent local option sales tax election.
Individuals may vote absentee in-person at the elections services office at Linn County West, 2500 Edgewood Rd. SW in Cedar Rapids. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The following jurisdictions will participate in this election: Cedar Rapids, Fairfax, Hiawatha, Marion, Robins, Walford and unincorporated Linn County.
In Cedar Rapids, the local option sales tax vote is back on the ballot due to the CREST petition drive, a grassroots effort that focused on putting flood protection for Cedar Rapids back on the ballot, with language specific to a ten (10) year extention and only for flood protection on both sides of the river and future maintenance of that flood protection. If voted positively, the 1 cent local option sales tax extension would begin on July 1, 2014, for a period of 10 years.
