Installation of New Parking Space Signs Begins Today
October 5, 2011 – Cedar Rapids, IA – In preparation for next Monday’s Park Cedar Rapids launch, installation of new parking space signage will begin today, Wednesday, October 5.
The process will include removal of old meter heads and installation of new “pay by space” numbered signage on existing meter poles. Park Cedar Rapids staff will begin the removal/installation process near Greene Square Park – starting on 4th Avenue SE near the railroad tracks and working around the park, onto 5th Street SE heading north and then back down 3rd Avenue heading west towards the river.
Parking patrons that use on-street spaces where the work is being performed or where the new space signage has been installed, will not need to pay the parking meters until the new multi-space LUKE pay stations go live on Monday, October 10. Park Cedar Rapids staff will be monitoring the area to assist customers as needed.
The new space signage will be installed in phases to ensure that Park Cedar Rapids staff have adequate time to educate users on the new meter system. Parking patrons are asked to observe signage at the curb when they pull into a parking space over the next several weeks – if a traditional coin meter head is located at a space, patrons should continue to pay that meter, however if a new numbered space sign is located at the curb, patrons should use the nearest LUKE multi-space pay station.
Media and general public are invited to join the Downtown District and Park Cedar Rapids on Monday, October 10 at 1:30 p.m. in Greene Square Park for the launch of Park Cedar Rapids.
