Safety Message from Cedar Rapids Parking

March 17, 2010

We take the security of our customers and guests very seriously.  In light of the incident that took place in the Five Season’ ramp on Monday morning, we felt it important to reach out to the users of our downtown parking system.  We wanted reassure you that the incident was isolated, opportunity driven and not a regular occurrence within our facilities.  We continue to be proactive in our approach towards security as we have in the past.  This would be the first incident of this type that has taken place.

We feel at this time it is important for you to know what preventative action we have taken to help protect our customers from these types of scenarios.  As part of our current program we have a security service physically patrol the skywalk system, both in the early mornings and again at night.  Secondly we have upwards of 15 to 20 city personnel active and providing a presence in our facilities throughout the day and night, helping to immediately report on any suspicious or unusual activity.

In the evenings, one component of our night manager’s responsibilities is to physically drive each location every night, observe and report any suspicious findings.  Additionally we have 3rd shift maintenance personnel presence throughout the parking system to assist with the identification and prevention of suspicious activity.
Although we have this presence in the facilities, and strive to be proactive, we cannot prevent all occurrences one hundred percent of the time.   We work hard to provide you a convenient and safe place to park.  You should always feel safe in our facilities.  Although many of these recommendations have been made in the past, we would like to reiterate the following tips:

  • Stay in well lit areas
  • Use the buddy system
  • Do not leave valuable items visible in your vehicle
  • Consider using your cell phone while walking by yourself
  • Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings

If you notice any unusual or suspicious activity, please report it immediately to our office at 319-365-7275 or Five Season Parkade 319-286-1609 after regular office hours.
