Connections 2040 Visioning Forums
Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area Explores Future Choices
Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is pleased to announce
the Connections 2040 Visioning Forum on December 3
rd, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza Ballroom, 350 1st
Avenue NE in Cedar Rapids. One session is scheduled in the afternoon from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and
the second is in the evening between 6:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
The Connections 2040 Visioning Forum is a regional gathering where participants will learn about
current trends and explore choices for how we grow and how we travel. The centerpiece of the events
is an interactive exercise to design the region and future travel connections. Results will feed directly
into identifying alternatives to study as part of the Connections 2040 long range plan.
“This is our opportunity to come together and explore the future for our region. Where do we want to
grow? How do we want to travel? What do we want our communities to look like years from now?
Although this is a long
‐range transportation plan that covers 30 years, there’s really a $15 million dollar
five
‐year investment plan nested within it that will impact investment decisions immediately,” said Brian
Fagan, Chair of the Corridor MPO Policy Board.
The Corridor Metropolitan Planning Organization is the federally designated transportation planning
organization for the Cedar Rapids metropolitan area. Each year, it allocates more than $3 million to local
metropolitan communities. This long range plan will help chart the future between now and 2040 for
Cedar Rapids, Ely, Hiawatha, Fairfax, Marion, Robins, Shueyville and portions of Linn County.
