The Alliant Energy Fifth Season Race-8K Run, 5K Run/Walk, Youth Mile, and Kids’ Fun Run will be held July 4th in downtown Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Valley Running Association invites you to join the July 4th running tradition of the Midwest.
Registration fees are $25 before June 22, $30 before June 29, and $35-$40 for late registration on July 3 and 4. Youth Mile Run fee is $12 ($15 on July 3 and 4). Kids’ Fun Run fee is $8 ($10 on July 3 and 4). Fifth Season Race Expo-Late Registration and Packet Pickup will be at the Crown Plaza Five Seasons Hotel. Entrants can pick up their race bib, electronic timing chip, and race shirt from noon to 7 p.m. on July 3 and 6 to 8 a.m. on July 4. For more information, see www.fifthseasonrace.com.
Get ready for an early 8K start!! The new starting time of the premier 8K Run is 7:30 a.m. The popular 5K Fun Run/Walk start time is 8 a.m. The start will be on May’s Island, 3rd Avenue Bridge. The finish is at 2nd Avenue and 2nd Street SE.
The Fifth Season Youth Mile Run, an exclusive competitive race for kids age 9-14, begins on Mays Island, 3rd Avenue Bridge at 9 a.m. The traditional Kids’ Fun Run for kids age 0-8 begins at 9:30 a.m.
Post race events are at two locations. The traditional post-race party will be along 1st Street SE near the Alliant Energy Tower and along 2nd Avenue Bridge overlooking the Cedar River. The second location is three blocks east at Green Square Park. One section of the park will include the post-race beer garden and the other section for post-race food and kids activities. The Cedar Rapids Jaycees will provide service and hospitality at the beer garden for the race entrants. Fleck Sales-Miller Lite will provide keg beer. Live music will be provided by the O’Connell Brothers Band.
The race will contribute a percentage of its total revenues (in addition to specific monies raised) to the Cedar Rapids Community Foundation and Mercy Hospice House. Race entrants may make a donation with their race entry, or download a contribution form at www.fifthseasonrace.com to record sponsorships from family and friends. Top fundraising 8K or 5K team wins a special award. Over $14,000 cash and in-kind donations were raised by entrants and sponsors in years past.
