African American Museum of Iowa

The African American Museum of Iowa, nestled along the Cedar River near downtown Cedar Rapids, has been carrying out its mission “To preserve, publicize, and educate the public on the African American heritage and culture of Iowa” since 1994.  It has become the leading educational resource on African American history in Iowa, and has two exhibits: a permanent exhibit called “Endless Possibilities,” and the 2011 temporary exhibit – “Unconditional Loyalty,” which focuses on the role of African Americans in the US Military.  Serving 34,000 people annually, the Museum offers tours, distinctive programming for all ages (with an emphasis on youth), community and fundraising events,  ICN classes, a summer camp, and much more across Iowa. We encourage you come visit us in Cedar Rapids or at one of our statewide programs!
